I've decided that yarn purchased for other "not-for-me" projects don't count as part of my stash or nor are they subject to freecia's rule of stash reduction. Ah yes, just got back from the Knitting Room in San Jose (off Almaden and 85) where I purchased a ball of cascade sierra in an ecru (color code #03) for my mother.
I know I promised a list of the new books I received for Xmas.
This store was a new find for Char and me and we really enjoyed it. Talk about Cascade 220, Plymouth, and Manos Galore. Plenty of staples in large hanks and smaller sock-ball-sized balls. They also have Lopi and Bulky yarns perfect for felting. Clover Needles straights, circs, and dpn. All the different sizes of the Bryspun straights, tiny dpn, and 7.5" dpn. They do have eyelash but it wasn't an overwhelming amount. Decent selection of books, too. There was also a male staffer (there's also one at Knitting Arts) who seemed fairly knowledgeable about the stock (and for those of you really wondering, I think he was straight. Does that make the knitting arts guy a circular?).
Definitely worth a visit especially if you are looking for some good felting stock in a well organized store or if your budget doesn't extend to Debbie Bliss and Rowan. This shop's stock reminds me somewhat of Rug and Yarn Hut's in Cambell except they may carry more of the really chunky ready-to-felt stuff like Lopi and Magnum. There's also lots of Jaeger Matchmaker DK and other sport weights. Certain colors seem to be dominant here and stock is organized by brand, not color.
Service was pretty good, too. They were quite busy but someone still came by and asked me if I needed help. She cheerily went about her way when I said I was in a candy shop and enjoying my browsing. Char had to wait a while to ask about a yarn which they didn't seem knowledgeable about, perhaps because they don't seem to carry that line of yarn. They did offer to order it if it was listed on the Plymouth website.
Well. Off to do some real world stuff before I head to M's after dinner :) Char, M, and I are having a knit night.
